Leadership carries authority. How do we determine what is authoritative? In our Gospel readings, this is a question that the religious leaders are grappling with, and it has been an ongoing issue through church history to us today. Authority comes with responsibility and power. This drivers license gives me the authority to drive a powerful piece of machinery, called a car, and with that, great responsibility. As we are called and commissioned to ministry, God authorizes and empowers us by the Holy Spirit. What is our responsibility to fulfill the trust of that commission? There are many, but I want to pick up on one main one today.
